Bat Night, August 2014
The bat night started in the churchyard with a short talk about local bat species and meeting a captive soprano pipistrelle. This was followed by walk starting in the churchyard where common and soprano pipistrelle bats were foraging over our heads and over the open grassy area, joined later by myotis species bats and noctule. We then walked down to Chollerford bridge where we were able to watch high numbers of soprano pipistrelle and Daubenton’s bats feeding low over the river. Noctule were feeding overhead, a fantastic way to spend an evening.
