Trapping

Small Mammal Trapping, 10th Sept 2011

Fifteen Longworth traps were set in the churchyard overnight filled with bait to attract and catch mice, voles or shrews.

The traps were checked at 6:30am and 14 of the 15 traps contained small mammals. We caught 9 woodmice, 3 bank voles and 2 common shrews. This is a very large catch, which shows that the churchyard is a really good place for wildlife. Five traps were also set in gardens in Waynriggs Terrace and two bank voles were caught in one garden. The traps in the churchyard were reset and checked again at 10:00am and by then we had trapped an extra 3 bank voles.
